With the National Debt ballooning above 10 trillion dollars, what's another $1.8 trillion with the Fed?

Well, it certainly can't be real money, can it? After all, we haven't had a budget that has had a surplus in ages. We have had government deficit spending like money grows on trees. I guess it does, from the standpoint of all the paper that is used to print up the bills.

What do you suppose the passing of the Bailout Bill is going to do to the dollar's strength? Who knows, maybe in some convoluted way if might strengthen the dollar.

My conspiracy theorists say this whole situation that we find ourselves in was caused by the big banks, the Federal Reserve (which is not federal at all, but a privately held corporation run by bankers, and politicians that either don't know any better or on the take for millions of dollars themselves. The End Game

With Microsoft having withdrawn its bid for Yahoo, Carl Ichan was quick to step in and try to place his own controlling board in charge of Yahoo at the next annual shareholders meeting.

Well, I am one to think that no matter what happens, most of the folks have not thought of the end game scenario. Microsoft certainly didn't think of the end game when Yahoo rebuffed Steve Ballmer's attempt to acquire Yahoo. After saying essentially that nothing was going to stop Microsoft from acquiring Yahoo, that is in effect what happened (at least for the time being).

With the dog's on it's tail, Yahoo, with the help of Google, a long time acquaintance and friend are ready to work out a new advertising arrangement.

To understand the history of Google and Yahoo's association we need to go back in time, to the early years of Google.

Google Corporate History

1998 Among those they called on was friend and Yahoo! founder David Filo. Filo agreed that their technology was solid, but encouraged Larry and Sergey to grow the service themselves by starting a search engine company. "When it's fully developed and scalable," he told them, "let's talk again." Others were less interested in Google, as it was now known. One portal CEO told them, "As long as we're 80 percent as good as our competitors, that's good enough. Our users don't really care about search."

2000 On June 26, Google and Yahoo! announced a partnership that solidified the company's reputation — not just as a provider of great technology, but as a substantial business answering 18 million user queries every day.

As a side note, I wonder who the quote is from above, "As long as we're 80 percent as good as our competitors, that's good enough. Our users don't really care about search." I guess we will just have to guess who the identity is for now. Read marketing strategies for your business.

So, as we can see, Google and Yahoo were close partners to begin with. Now, it is quite possible that Yahoo is coming back to the fold.

If you think about it, Steve Ballmer may have done both Google and Yahoo a favor by forcing the talks to happen between the two. From Microsoft's point of view, this could have been a big mistake ever coming to the Yahoo table in the first place and then walking away. If you are going to play out a multi-billion dollar gambit, and placing the majority of your spare billions of dollars into a deal, you better have the end game figured out. Is it possible that as the saying goes, pride comes before the fall? ??

Time will tell.

By-the-way, no sooner did I get this posted, I read online that now Microsoft is trying for a piece of the partial action for Yahoo in the form of an advertising revenue sharing arrangement, agreement, purchase, or who knows what. Wow, what a wild wild web we weave!

Gathering information online requires note taking. This is especially true when doing research for writing technical articles about specific topics and you need to get your facts straight.

I use Firefox quite extensively as my main research browser when it comes to anything related to the Internet. Mozilla Firefox has thousands of add-ons which users can add to the browser to include other specific useful tools. One of those tools is Clippings 3.0 Firefox and Thunderbird email client add-ons.

Clippings 3.0 by AE Creations saves and manages frequently-entered text for later pasting into Web page forms in Firefox, or email and newsgroup messages in Thunderbird. Microsoft + Yahoo 1 + 1 = What?

OK folks, with the proposed buyout of Yahoo! by Microsoft, everyone is trying to dissect what would be the consequences of such a buyout.

Well, I'm no expert, but many experts have many different opinions about how this would affect the search and online advertising landscape, so I'm going to add my two cents worth of opinion.

In my opinion I don't think it will change the landscape that much for Google. In the short and long run, this might actually be good for Google and its users because they will have stayed the course.

There are so many things between Yahoo! and Microsoft that are redundant that I can't imagine there not being major layoffs, hence the term "cost savings." Microsoft can pick and choose which items they want to keep and which ones they would put on the back burner so-to-speak. The absorption of technology by Microsoft from the Yahoo! acquisition would take time to decide which technology is ultimately going to be used for online advertising delivery and other technology services. Even if they were to integrate two different advertising platforms, it still comes down to a major degree of difficulty combining the two.

Then there is the whole cultural challenges facing Microsoft. Yahoo! employees have looked at Microsoft as the other team. Microsoft arrived on the search scene and the online advertising scene late. They have invested billions of dollars on trying to catch up to Google, and have not made much of a dent. But, the online world is quite different than the typical challenges with increasing market share. The buyout does not represent anything new for Microsoft. So where is there really going to be an increase in market share. As long as Google delivers great values for their users, it is highly unlikely that Google users would jump ship and move over to a combined Microsoft Yahoo! company.

Then, think about the brand. Will it be Microhoo or Yahoosoft? Seriously folks, how will the brands be integrated? Will it be MSN Search, Live Search, Yahoo! Search, or what? Will Microsoft keep all the brands, and will that ultimately help their market share? Interesting and fascinating all rolled into one. Sounds like a great topic of discussion for a college course.

If Microsoft wants to do it, let them do it.

Just like in sports, where there is free agency, and teams think there is value in one player over another, and are willing to pay whatever top dollar they think is appropriate, another team can come in and say they are willing to pay more for that player. Well, this Microsoft Yahoo! deal is much the same. Google has offered some things that could ultimately be better for Yahoo!, such as providing the search engine for Yahoo!. Interesting times we live in. I guess the shareholders will ultimately decide.

Under the dash behind the glove compartment on passenger side of vehicle

Tools:
Standard and Phillips screwdriver

To remove existing filters:
1. Open the glove compartment and remove the two locking tabs from either side of the glove compartment.
2. Remove four screws from the left, center and right of the glove compartment and close the glove compartment (Fig. 1,2)
3. Remove the access panel from the right side of the glove compartment.
4. Remove the two bottom screws under the access panel (Fig. 3).
5. Important Read Carefully Here: Remove the access panel in center of the dashboard console, under the radio (not really shown in pictures), by slightly prying a small screwdriver at the top right and top left of this center panel, and carefully pull back, so the bottom clips of this plastic panel come back towards the opening, and then remove the screw that is behind and on the right side of this panel (Fig. 4 actually shows removing the access panel under the glove compartment).
6. Remove the access panel under the glove compartment.
7. Remove two screws on the underside of the glove compartment and one screw on the metal bar (Fig. 5).
8. Remove the glove compartment, carefully disconnecting the light wire on the left side (Fig. 6,7).
9. Remove the remaining two screws on either side of the metal bar and remove bar (Fig. 8,9). (Do not remove the ground screw.)
10. The cabin filter access door is now visible, pull up on the door to release and remove (Fig. 10).
11. Pull out the first filter in housing and slide the second into the opening and remove (Fig. 11,12).
12. Remove the dirty filters from the filter housings and replace with clean filters, paying careful attention to the air flow direction arrows (Fig. 13).
13. Reverse steps to complete filter change out.

Notes: Make sure you install the filters in the housing properly noting both the air flow directions on the two pleated paper filters and the two plastic housings. (Do not throw away the plastic filter housings by mistake!) You might have to fit the end pleats carefully over the internal plastic housing clips which hold the pleated paper filters solidly in place in the plastic housings.

Also, make sure to clean out the internal housing area of the blower box with some form of small vacuum. Lots of debris can build up inside the blower box. Suggest turning on the blower fan at full speed, with the passenger door open, and allow all the debris to blow out of the fan box.

Estimated time to do the job right, from beginning to the end; one to 1.5 hours.

I am talking from experience. Just be sure to start the project when you have daylight, otherwise you are going to need a light.

When you purchase a replacement filter(s); I purchased ours at Kragen Auto Parts Supply store, the instructions were included with the filters. Two pleated filters come as a set inside one box. $18.99

The G in Gmail

I can't believe it! I thought I was loosing my emails.

Early this week I noticed something very strange with my Gmail account. I was up at 65% usage one minute and down to 56% usage another minute. I know I wasn't loosing my mind, but my first thought was what happened to all my emails. I must have lost some, but no, that wasn't the case at all.

Google started bumping up the storage capacity on the Gmail accounts at a much faster rate than they were previously doing. The storage went through the roof. I think I was somewhere around 2.8 Gigabytes at one point, and then at the next point I had 3.4 Gigabytes or so. Now, in just a few days it has gone to over 3.6 Gigabytes and counting.

I consider myself a power user of Gmail. I use it to store everything. I even send emails to myself so I can find information for the future. Actually the sending of important reference material to myself has paid dividends in the past and into the future. No matter where I am, no matter which computer I am using, no matter what, I can find the information I saved online.

Now, my percentage of used area is headed south, which is making me feel really good, since I was trying to figure out what miscellaneous e-mails I might not need for the future. Now, I don't have to worry about it.

The Russians Are Coming

No, the Russians are not really coming.

I just got email notification that a group of spam related websites are posting a bunch of links on comment areas of various blogs. After tracking down the IP address, using a free Statcounter, I was able to see they are posting it from the Russia Federation.

To control it on some of the blogs, I turned on comment moderation. With email verification and comment moderation, a person can control this type of behavior. If you really want some immediate notification, consider sending an automatic message using Gmail Email services to your cell phone or pager whenever someone posts a comment.

I guess we all have to do our part along with Jim West to combat what goes on in the Wild Wild West of the Internet.

Barron Davis Is A True Warrior

Going out of the game in the second quarter with a hamstring strain, Barron Davis overcame the injury to still come out, and out play the Dallas Mavericks in the second half.

Stephen Jackson hit 7 of 8 three pointer shots and had a career playoff-high of 33 points.

Everyone of the Warriors players contributed in a final scoring, 111 to 86 win over the Dallas Mavericks.

The first time a number 8 seeded team knocked off a number 1 seeded team in a best of seven game series.

Simply amazing!

Basketball Playoffs Are Exciting

Even if you know very little about the technical aspects of the game of basketball, (and I am placed in that group) the Warriors (#8 seeded) vs Mavericks (#1 seeded) have brought an excitement to the Bay Area that has not been seen for some time. Just when you think the Mavericks have finally figured out a way to have the Warriors play the slow paced Maverick style game and a way to win, the Warriors found a way to beat them at their own game.

Baron Davis had some of the most fantastic basketball shots that will ever be remembered. With the Warriors looking to go in at halftime down by three, Baron Davis shot a mid-court shot that bounced in off the backboard with no time remaining, to tie the score. Simply amazing...

Then when it looked like the Mavericks would take off in the third quarter, the Warriors clawed their way back, and in the last of the fourth quarter turned the tied, to come out on top. Simply amazing again...

This is more than a head scratcher for the Mavericks. This might have put the lid on the coffin. Can the Mavericks come back? You bet. That's why the Warriors coach Don Nelson speaks in tones of respect for the Mavericks. But, it would take the Mavericks to win three games in a row, to advance. Yep, the lid might be placed on top of the coffin, but it is not quite nailed shut.

It's The Simple Projects That Take Time — Sometimes

The front grass was not getting enough water. One sprinkler head was not popping up. No big deal, I'll just replace the sprinkler head, right? Wrong... Digging the head out of a root mass was the challenging part. Two hours after starting the project, dozens of tools, and finally getting the air impact hammer chisel out, I finally was able to extract the head out in pieces and carved a 4 inch diameter hole 12 inches deep to the bottom of the fitting. What fun... Then a trip to the local Orchard Supply Hardware store to get some new fittings and a sprinkler head. At least I didn't have to replace the pipe in the ground.

Isn't it fun being a homeowner?

Game Three Goes To The Golden State Warriors

Seven game series gets serious for the Dallas Maverics. Dallas fans, coach Avery Johnson, and the Dallas Maverics players all seem to be scratching their heads on this first round series. Like any game, basketball involves strategies at all levels of play. Some teams just seem to match up in certain ways that defies the odds. The match-ups between the Warriors and the Mavs seem to be in favor of the Warriors at the moment. While the series is not close to being over, the Warriors have definitely made an impression on just about everyone.

It should be interesting, at least for the next two games.

Amazing What A Streak Does For A Team

Sports and business go hand-in-hand. The San Francisco Giants have a way of bouncing back and making things look brighter. When the season began, the Giants were located in the cellar. They had one of the worst records in baseball. It seemed like nothing could go right.

Now, this past week, they are the hottest team in the league. The Giants jumped from the cellar to the top of the pack. Just goes to show what can be achieved in a short amount of time.

182 games is a long season. This is a marathon, not a sprint. Rest assured that there will probably be more bumps along the way.

The Warriors Basketball Team Is Playoff Bound

Isn't it interesting the way the sports world seems to really have a way of reflecting of what goes on in life and business? The Golden State Warriors were not even close to making the playoffs just a month ago, and now they are one of the best performing teams in the NBA in the last month of the season.

It doesn't matter how many times you fail. It doesn't matter how many times you almost get it right. No one is going to know or care about your failures, and neither should you. All you have to do is learn from them and those around you because... All that matters in business is that you get it right once. Then everyone can tell you how lucky you are.

If you haven't watched The Big Idea with Donny Deutsch, your missing some good stuff.

Donny has had a lot of rich people on the show and likes to dig into what their thought processes are and how they got to the point where they are today. Some of his guests are more honest than others.

I had to laugh a little when Donny asked Trump about some of his biggest mistakes. Trump said something to the tune that he does not look at things as if he made mistakes but at things as though they just did not work out. Others on the show said they recognized their mistakes and corrected them quickly. This makes more sense to me than the other way. I don't think Trump is very honest with himself.

No matter what, if you go through life and learn from your mistakes, you will likely be much better off.
