Ipcas has not responded to many emails and phone messages. I wonder whether they're still in business?

Also there are loads of test equipment that use floppies for data/program transfer/storage. I have an older HP scope that I need to have the floppy drive replaced, a SSD would be ideal. If you the money to buy new equipment thats nice but some of us have to live within our means.

Thanks for this information.
Jim is right on. Case in point .There are thousands of Theatrical Lighting consoles which use Floppy drive as backup and storage. For a couple of hundred bucks (or less) these could be upgraded to use SSDs.

To the retro guy, Gavin,

I disagree with your analysis that floppy emulators are "not needed in any form at all."

In the industrial sector, there are many machines that output hundreds of thousands of dollars of production each and every month. The machines are still very good for doing production, however, the operating system is being loaded from floppy disk drives that are still loaded from either 5.25 or 3.5 inch floppy disks. Many of the manufacturers are no longer in business to support the equipment, and the best thing would be to put a solid state floppy disk drive emulator to do away with the old floppy drives. It is not just about the floppy drives but the medium itself is no longer viable. The software disks are going bad, and even if you get another used floppy drive, the floppy disks are scratched to the point that eventually the machine will become a big boat anchor.

However, if the information is able to be stored on say a flash drive or USB drive, through a floppy disk drive emulator, the equipment could be keep running for the long haul.

So, quit thinking on a small PC scale, and think about all the machinery that is built to run from floppies that is still in production today. Manufacturers can not afford to spend a half a million dollars on a brand new machine.

<a href="http://hxc2001.free.fr/floppy_drive_emulator/index.html#SDCARDFloppyemulator">http://hxc2001.free.fr/floppy_drive_emulator/index.html#SDCARDFloppyemulator</a>

Has a floppy emulator with either connectivity to another computer over usb (running a kind of floppy-server), or connectivity to a memory-card; like a floppy-emulator with a memory card instead of a usb-stick.

May well be worth reviewing here, it nicely adds to the excellent info you allready provide :)
